These are the assets of an event branding project promoting The Global Goals. More specifically goal 12: Responsible consumption and production. I created a poster I believed would create a sense of unease to the viewer, in the hopes that they would realise the impact that society's consumer habits have on our planet and encourage them to act. I was inspired by our tutor Greg Bunbury and his article on designing for change.
The poster effectively mirrors the experience of a consumer shopping online, but with a twist. Featuring an image of the Earth, the slogan, "Hurry! Only one left in stock," taps into the sense of urgency that often accompanies online shopping, where consumers fear missing out on a limited item if they don't act fast. To amplify this urgency, the poster replaces the typical "Add to Basket" or "Buy Now" button with a bold "ACT NOW." The accompanying copy then shifts focus, highlighting the damaging effects of consumerism on the planet and urging viewers to reconsider their purchasing habits. It encourages buying secondhand as a more sustainable alternative.
The reactions to this poster have been striking, with many finding the parallel between limited stock and the Earth's dwindling resources to be a powerful reminder of how fragile our planet truly is. It underscores the need for urgent action to mitigate the environmental harm we've caused and to help restore the damage we've done.
At the end of this project, the department held an exhibition to showcase all the amazing work and I had the incredible opportunity to present my work to Hannah Cameron, the Creative Director of Project Everyone. Hannah was genuinely impressed by my poster, and as a result, I was selected to have my work featured on the official Global Goals Instagram page.
